Abstract

The article examines how academic integrity is changing under the influence of the active use of artificial intelligence technologies in the preparation of scientific publications. It reveals the essence of academic integrity not merely as a set of ethical norms and rules governing scientific activity, but as a system that is constantly evolving in response to new challenges, particularly the emergence of tools for text generation, data processing, analysis of results, and the preparation of scientific conclusions through artificial intelligence.

The study examines the main risks: violations of authorship principles, instances of plagiarism, distortion or fabrication of research results, and a reduction in the researcher’s personal responsibility for the final scientific product. It highlights the need for a clear distinction between the contributions of the researcher and automated systems in the creation of scientific content. The paper emphasizes that adherence to the principles of reliability, objectivity, and responsibility becomes even more important with the development of new technologies.

The article presents statistical data on the use of artificial intelligence in scientific publications and demonstrates how the frequency of using these technologies varies depending on researchers’ experience. It summarizes international approaches and recommendations regarding the ethical application of artificial intelligence in academic writing. The current state of legal regulation of this issue in Ukraine is described.

Key directions for improving academic integrity policies are identified: developing clear institutional rules, raising researchers’ awareness, and implementing standards for the responsible use of artificial intelligence. Specific recommendations are provided for establishing an effective system of oversight and self-regulation—to ensure that scientific publications remain high-quality, reliable, and trusted by society.
