Abstract

The article analyzes the state and cooperation problems between Ukraine and Germany in the production, trade, and scientific and technical spheres. The relevance of economic cooperation between countries is substantiated. As Germany is one of the world's leaders, a member of the G7 with the largest economy and population in the EU, the cooperation is crucial in the conditions when Ukraine and the EU officially started negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the European Union.

The main forms of international economic relations between countries are analyzed. To date, the contractual and legal basis of relations between Ukraine and Germany includes 89 documents of an international legal nature, 43 of which are concluded at the intergovernmental and intergovernmental levels. It has been demonstrated that traditional forms of international economic relations, such as international production, international trade, and international scientific and technical ties determine economic cooperation between countries. It has been established that Germany is one of the largest donors of FDI in Ukraine. However, the sectoral structure of investments needs to be adjusted given the significant interest of German investors in raw materials production, which does not meet the tasks of modernization and recovery of the economy of Ukraine. Germany is also a major trading partner of Ukraine. It ranks fifth among countries in the world in terms of Ukrainian exports and third in terms of imports. However, the structure of Ukrainian commodity export and import with Germany confirms the thesis of the subordination of international cooperation to the goals of providing the economy of the EU countries with Ukrainian raw materials. Scientific and technical relations between countries are also important in bilateral cooperation. They are developed with the participation of institutes and divisions of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, along the lines of the Ministry of Education of Ukraine, partner relations between universities, bilateral scientific and technical connections, etc.

Bilateral economic cooperation contributes to strengthening industrial, social, and cultural ties between the countries, which is an important step toward Ukraine's integration into the European scientific and educational space.
