DEVELOPMENT OF THE DAIRY INDUSTRY OF UKRAINE IN THE CONTEXT OF STRENGTHENING EU FOOD SECURITY

The dairy industry is one of the main components of the Ukrainian agricultural sector, therefore it requires sufficient attention to the issues of quality and safety of food products in accordance with EU requirements. Ukraine has all the prerequisites for the successful development of dairy farming. The article analyzes the volume of production of non-condensed milk and cream in Ukraine for 2011-2024. An assessment of exports of non-condensed milk and cream from Ukraine to the world and the EU under code 0401 “Milk and cream, not concentrated and not containing added sugar or other sweetening matter” for 2011-2024 was carried out. It was established that in 2024, despite the reduction in milk yield, Ukraine increased its exports of dairy products. A change in the geography of Ukraine’s exports of dairy products was identified. From 2022 to 2024, the main importers of milk and cream under code 0401 “Milk and cream, not concentrated and not containing added sugar or other sweetening matter” were Poland, Lithuania, Bulgaria, and the Netherlands. The main reasons for the increase in exports of dairy products from Ukraine to the EU were identified.
Today, the general state of the dairy industry in Ukraine allows us to fully meet domestic demand. Despite the war, the situation for the dairy industry remains positive. This is primarily due to the fact that since 2022, the possibility of exporting Ukrainian dairy products to the European Community has expanded, and on the world market, prices for exchange-traded dairy products were high. Exports of non-concentrated milk and cream under code 0401 from Ukraine to the world in 2022-24 increased by 78% compared to 2021. The value of exports also increased by 69.8% in 2024. In general, this was due to a significant increase in exports of the product group 0401 20 “Milk and cream, not concentrated and not containing added sugar or other sweetening matter: with a fat content of more than 1% by weight, but not more than 6% by weight”.
