The article examines the role of business processes in the formation and maintenance of enterprise economic security under conditions of a dynamic and uncertain business environment. The study substantiates the need to move beyond a predominantly protective interpretation of economic security towards its understanding as a dynamic capability of an enterprise to ensure continuity of operations, adapt to environmental changes, withstand risks and threats, and preserve its potential for further development. The significance of the process approach as a methodological basis for examining the interrelationships between resources, managerial decisions, operational results, risks, and threats is substantiated. Business processes are considered as an internal mechanism for forming enterprise economic security and as a phenomenon characterized by a dual nature.
Under inadequate organization, regulation, and management, business processes may generate or amplify risks and threats; however, when properly regulated, controlled, and adapted, they can contribute to the prevention, localization, and minimization of their negative consequences. The key security characteristics of business processes are systematized, with particular attention to controllability, continuity, reliability, adaptability, regulation, information security, resource sufficiency, and recoverability. Their causal relationship with the state of enterprise economic security is revealed. A cause-and-effect model of the influence of business processes on economic security is proposed, reflecting the transformation of process deviations into risks and threats and, under appropriate management conditions, into mechanisms for their timely detection, prevention, localization, and neutralization.
The study substantiates that the security dimension of business processes constitutes an important component of the modern system of enterprise economic security and determines the ability of an enterprise to maintain operational continuity, preserve resources and performance, and adapt to changes in the external and internal environment. The proposed approach provides a conceptual basis for further development of methodological tools for assessing the security characteristics of business processes and managing their impact on enterprise economic security.
