Abstract

The article examines the theoretical and methodological foundations of the mixed economy as the dominant model of organizing a modern economic system. The evolution of scientific approaches to the concept of a mixed economy is analyzed, and the main theoretical views developed within the Keynesian, institutional, neoclassical, and social market economy traditions are considered. Particular attention is paid to the relationship between market self-regulation and state intervention, as well as to alternative concepts that deny the possibility of the mixed economy as an independent type of economic system.

The study demonstrates that a modern mixed economy is characterized by the coexistence of various forms of ownership, diversity of economic actors, and the interaction of market mechanisms, public administration, and civil society institutions. It is argued that the effective functioning of a mixed economic system depends not only on the balance between the market and the state but also on the active participation of corporations, professional associations, consumer organizations, and other institutions that influence the allocation of resources and the implementation of economic policy.

Special attention is given to the development of the mixed economy in Ukraine under current socio-economic transformations. The findings indicate that sustainable economic development requires improving state regulation, strengthening market institutions, supporting civil society, and ensuring a balanced interaction among the state, business, and society. The article concludes that the mixed economy represents the most adaptive model of economic development capable of ensuring economic growth, social stability, and a higher quality of life.
