Crisis Turbulence and the Market Potential of Industrial Enterprises: Economic-Security-Oriented Managerial Responses

Abstract

The article investigates macroeconomic indicators of doing business and the available market potential, and identifies the key development trends of industrial enterprises. The market potential of industrial enterprises is characterised by presenting the dynamics of their quantitative composition and the market’s capacity to satisfy existing demand. The impact of inflation on enterprises’ production activity is analysed through changes in the cost of resources. To examine market development, the paper presents the volume of sold production (goods and services) of industrial enterprises by regions for 2015–2023. The dynamics of production indices for enterprises manufacturing construction materials and products are provided, demonstrating the sector’s vulnerability to crises, high demand cyclicality driven by production factors, and its ability to recover rapidly. The costs of enterprises producing construction materials and products in 2015–2024 are analysed, and their financial performance for the corresponding period is determined. The study also assesses enterprises’ capacity to operate normally under extreme external environmental turbulence and significant challenges. Particular attention is paid to crisis phenomena and current trends in industry. An authorial perspective on the evolution of the external environment of industrial enterprises’ functioning in Ukraine is developed. This information may serve as a “roadmap” that enables understanding not only the transformations of the external environment that have already occurred, but also anticipating future challenges. The proposed approach can be used for retrospective analysis and for developing adaptive strategies aimed at ensuring enterprises’ economic security and maximising the realisation of market potential.
